Le Potier D’Etain Was Established By The Brassac Family, Master Pewter-Smiths For Six Generations Based In The Village Of Bourg De Peage In South-East France. The Brassac’S Were Inspired By Louis Xiv, Who Sold His Gold And Silver Tableware For Pewter, To Finance His Battles And The Construction Of The Versailles. This Led To The Family Becoming Pewter Potters In Auvergne, France, Where The Family Would Visit Each Village Making Tableware From Their Wooden Barrow On Demand.
In 1952, The Brassac Family’S Craftsmanship Was Recognised By All, After Francois Brassac, Having Learnt The Skill From His Father, Started His Business. He Became Master Pewter Potter And Created His Own Hallmarks, Which Are Still Present On Each Object Today. The Company Have Recently Been Accredited As An Entreprise Du Patrimoine Vivant (Epv, Living Heritage Company) A Widely Recognised Honour In France.
